04 Nissan Spec V Time Attack version

crazy functionality

nitto spec v

One of our longtime clients, Mike Kojima, comissioned us to finish the build on this 2004 Nissan SpecV for the Nitto tire company.
His only instructions were to "just make it functional and look crazy". So, we set out to build some advanced aerodynamics for this car.
The time attack rules are fairly open as far as the aero package you can run. In the front, Mike supplied us with an air dam to which we
added an aggressive splitter and undertray. We designed and fabricated an aluminum undertray which securely attaches the splitter/bumper
to the core support while allowing easy removal using dzus fasteners. The splitter itself is one of our carbon fiber units which features
an aircraft birch ply core. The assembly had to be durable in case of any off track excursions. The stock bumper inlets are used to direct
air to the intercooler, radiator, oil cooler and cold air intake. Inside the bumper are aluminum ducts to provide a smooth path for the air into
and out of the coolers. A carbon hood with an existing center exit duct was also brought to us by Kojima. He wanted us to do somthing "a
little different" to the bonnet so we installed some of our pre-preg louvered ducts. The effect looks great and will allow more heat to escape
the engine compartment.

The USDM SpecV's come with a sunroof which we needed to get rid of to lose of a bunch of weight up high. A custom carbon fiber
sunroof was the logical solution and was made here at After Hours. We also installed all of the lexan to further lighten the roof section.
The interior wasn't left out either, there is a custom made carbon dashboard covering the fuse panels, harness and ECU. Mike wanted
us to fabricate an air intake for a driver cooling system in case the car is driven in any endurance races. We installed a NACA duct into
the rear door window for this with a bracket that still allows it to open normally.

To balance the downforce created in the front, we mounted the wing to a bracket that passes through the carbon fiber decklid and ties
directly to plates welded to the unibody. The wing is a trick carbon fiber unit made by ADS. An underbody diffuser cleans up the air under
the rear of the car providing some additional downforce while reducing drag. We built the diffuser so it could be unbolted as a unit to service
the rear suspension. The rear of the wheelwells were also removed and tunnels built to allow the air to escape from that high pressure area.
The vertical panels are carbon fiber with aircraft birch ply core bonded to the aluminum brackets.

You can see this beast compete at the next time attack event. We'll see if all the aero madness wil lead to some lower lap times. After Hours
can handle just about any one off project you can imagine (or if you can't, leave it up to us). Call or e-mail us with your vision and we can
make it happen.
